Docsie MCP server · Edit docs

Write and maintain your docs from your AI assistant or IDE.

Ask Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Claude or ChatGPT to update an article, draft a new one from a diff, add release notes or refresh a translation. Your assistant makes the change in your Docsie workspace block by block, so images and tables stay as they were and every edit is saved as a new revision.

Needs the Workspace create and edit pack, which is off by default. Works on every Docsie plan, Free included.

Your workspace, read back in the chat

Asked "can you give me my Docsie workspace overview", Claude reads the workspace over MCP: 8 documentation sets, 20 books, 62 articles and 88 files, its settings and recent activity.

What you can ask

Keep the docs in step with the product.

Each request below is real work the Docsie team has done on its own help center over MCP, and any of them runs from any client. Your assistant finds the articles, reads them, and changes only what needs changing.

Claude Code

“Which help articles need updating after this week's changes? Update them through Docsie.”

  • search_articles
  • get_article_raw
  • update_article_blocks

The Docsie team's weekly catch-up. It edits about 10 articles, and each change is saved as a new revision.

Cursor

“Write the help article for this feature from the diff, not from memory, and put it in the developer guide.”

  • list_books
  • import_markdown_as_article

A new article in that book, left as an unpublished draft for someone to review. The Docsie team drafts feature articles this way.

Codex

“Find the help articles whose images don't load and fix the links.”

  • search_articles
  • get_article_raw
  • update_article_blocks

On the Docsie help center this fixed 15 broken image links across 7 articles, including "Edit your document with AI".

How it works

How editing works over MCP.

Connect with editing on

Add https://app.docsie.io/mcp to your client and sign in. On Docsie's permission screen, tick Workspace create and edit.

Ask for the change

Name the articles, paste a diff or describe the release. Your assistant searches the workspace and reads each article before it edits.

Review and publish

Edits are saved as new revisions you can undo in the editor. New articles start as unpublished drafts. Publish from Docsie, or ask your assistant to publish the version.

Permissions and limits

What to tick, and what it costs.

Tick Workspace create and edit

Writing, translating and versioning need the Workspace create and edit pack, which is off by default. Without it, your assistant can still search and read.

Every plan, Free included

The MCP server works on every Docsie plan. AI jobs started in Docsie use your organization's AI credits, the same as in the app.

Codex can use a service token

Codex can connect with a service token from MCP Access instead of a personal sign-in. The token covers one workspace and the packs you pick, and it's shown once.

FAQ

Common questions

Can Claude Code or Cursor edit my documentation?

Yes. Connected to the Docsie MCP server with the Workspace create and edit pack, they can create, update, move and copy articles, books and shelves, add languages and publish versions in the workspaces your account can reach.

Will an AI edit break my images and tables?

Edits are made block by block, so images, tables and other rich blocks stay as they were. Each change is saved as a new revision that you can undo in the Docsie editor.

Can it write release notes?

Yes. Give your assistant the release and point it at your release-notes article. It adds the new items and leaves the rest of the post alone. The Docsie team updates its "October 2026 Product Update" this way.

Can it translate my docs?

It can add a language to a version and queue the translation, or refresh existing languages after the source changes. A refresh translates only the blocks that changed.

What does the Docsie team use it for?

Keeping its own help center current: a weekly catch-up of about 10 articles, new articles such as "Webhooks for publishing, jobs and factories", release notes, and a fix of 15 broken image links across 7 articles.

Does it work in Claude and ChatGPT too?

Yes. Claude adds Docsie as a custom connector and ChatGPT connects in developer mode. Each person signs in with their own Docsie account.
